FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – FRIDAY 18 NOVEMBER 2016
SQUARE TOWER TO HOST PORTSMOUTH AND SOUTHSEA CONSORTIUM’S SECOND ETSY MADE LOCAL MARKET ON 02 AND 03 DECEMBER 2016
On Friday 02 and Saturday 03 December 2016, a selection of artists, crafters, designers, makers and vintage enthusiasts will set up shop at Square Tower, Broad Street, Portsmouth, to offer for sale a selection of their items as part of Etsy Made Local, a series of markets taking place across the UK that weekend facilitated by Etsy, the online marketplace for handmade items, vintage goods and craft supplies.
On Friday 02 December, doors will be open from 2pm-8pm, and there’ll be a bit of a Christmas party from 6pm, with festive food, drink and music – and a raffle, giving you the opportunity to win a selection of the handmade items on offer. On Saturday 03 December, doors will be open 10am-4pm.
The Etsy Made Local market at Square Tower has been organised by The Portsmouth and Southsea Consortium, a volunteer community supporting and showcasing enterprise, knowledge, innovation and skill in artists, crafters, designers and makers from its local area.
The Consortium’s Etsy team has over 200 members, the majority being local independent businesses from in and around Portsmouth and Southsea; those selling at Etsy Made Local were selected by a panel comprising experts from across Portsmouth and Southsea’s creative businesses, and will sell alongside the Consortium’s co-founders.
Etsy Made Local will see a phenomenal range of local creative talent on display – and for sale – from such traders as artists, carpenters, cosmeticians, crocheters, graphic designers, illustrators, jewellers, knitters, stationers and textile artists. The market is the perfect opportunity to find personal or unique Christmas presents for family and friends.
Tom Jeram-West, co-founder of the Portsmouth and Southsea Consortium and captain of its Etsy team, says:
“If you’re going to buy a Christmas present for someone, buy handmade and buy independent. Our Etsy Made Local market gives you the perfect opportunity to do just that – and to meet local makers, finding out about their inspiration, determination and hard work, and why they’re more ethical and sustainable than the high street alternative!”
Square Tower is proud to host the Consortium’s Etsy Made Local market; it continues to be the venue of choice for a number of different events organised by the local creative community, including the regular Crafts in the Tower markets and the destash events organised by local haberdashery Seeded.
Square Tower is a key presence as a new creative quarter is established in its local area, which includes the nearby, and recently completed, Hot Walls creative studios, a series of artillery barracks converted into creative spaces in 2015. These have since become home to a number of artists, artisans designers and makers – our friends and colleagues – who are having their own festive market on Saturday 03 December, so you’ll be able to visit them, too, whilst you’re down.
