Southsea Night Markets – Friday 10 July

The second of this year’s Southsea Night Markets saw double the number of sellers than attended the first one and around 210 visitors – including someone who believed us to be a Mediterranean food market… Sorry! Perhaps someone will knit a slice of tortilla española or embroider some olives for next time!

We were once again on the receiving end of a great deal of encouragement from the visitors to the Market; it’s an utter delight to see people connecting with their local artists, designers, crafters and makers – and supporting the local creative community by buying from them, too! Our thanks to everyone who came down, and we hope to see you at one or more of the three remaining markets!

If you do visit, make sure you take the time to ask those selling about what they make and why they make it – the Southsea Night Markets really are a wonderful opportunity to find out the story of what’s on offer, which is something you don’t often get buying something off the shelf in a shop.

Please find below a selection of images from the night showcasing just a small number of the items on offer from the sellers present:

Once again, the kind folk at the Square Tower opened their doors to offer refreshments to visitors to the area, and will continue to do so over the next few weeks – if you pop down to the Southsea Night Markets, pop in and buy a slice of cake! They kindly passed around a few slices at the end of the evening, much to the delight of our co-founder Tom…

If you’d like to participate in the Southsea Night Markets as a seller, then you can find all the information you need in our ‘call for participants’ post – remember, this is a free opportunity!
